Supporting students as they plan for life after their master’s is a fundamental part of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program in Cambridge. We encourage scholars to start thinking about what’s next – whether that’s a full-time role, a placement, a PhD, or even launching a start-up – from their very first day here.
Mastercard Foundation Scholars can access career coaching, CV writing tips, guidance on finding a meaningful placement, advice on applying for a PhD from current students and more.
Now that our third cohort is nearing the end of the academic year (how time flies!), our full-day transitions workshop on 10 May gave participants the chance to discuss and sharpen their plans.
The workshop featured sessions on ‘Entrepreneurial mindset and job creation’, ‘Networking and branding in the digital age’, and ‘Securing funding and building academic connections’.
A particular highlight was the panel discussion on ‘Career curves, resilience and reinvention’, with alumni sharing their varied experiences post-Cambridge and key lessons learnt, including the importance of 'being visible' and how to pivot when facing insurmountable barriers.
Between sessions, scholars had professional portrait photos taken, helping them to make a great first impression and build their personal brand.
We can’t wait to see all of the amazing things scholars in the class of 2024/25 will go on to do after graduating this summer!
